About the role

At AEG, you'll work alongside Optometrists to support all aspects of patient care and education, ensuring exceptional care for patients. Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting pre-testing procedures, such as dilation, topicals, diagnostic medications, Optomap, auto reflector, visual acuity, etc.
  • Verbal interviewing patients to determine medical issues and reasons for their visit.
  • Scheduling referral appointments with Ophthalmologists, Diagnostic follow-up visits, and other specialty referrals, and completing paperwork.
  • Recording and maintaining patient records in compliance with company, federal, and state policies (HIPAA).
  • Responding to patient inquiries regarding medication, treatment, and problems.
  • Performing diagnostic testing using specialty equipment (OCT, Visual Field, Pachymetry, Retinal Camera, etc.) and documenting findings.
  • Ensuring maximum schedule utilization through pre-appointment confirmation, daily appointment confirmation, and contacting patients to reschedule.
  • Performing contact lens insertion and removal classes, managing trial inventory, and taking contact lens orders.
  • Completing end-of-day responsibilities including opti-schedule wrap-up and end-of-day checklist.
  • Cleaning and organizing the practice area to maintain cleanliness and visual appeal.
  • Acting as a scribe for the Optometrist or performing refractions as needed.

Requirements

  • Experience evaluating patients for eye exams and dispensing eye exam medications.
  • Familiarity with medical terms associated with eye treatment.
  • Experience maintaining patients’ records per HIPAA regulations.
  • Industry certification (CPO, CPOA, CPOT).

Qualifications

  • High School or GED qualification.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • PC skills including MC Office, Windows, and Word Processing.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with co-workers and patients.
