About the role
At AEG, you'll work alongside Optometrists to support all aspects of patient care and education, ensuring exceptional care for patients. Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting pre-testing procedures, such as dilation, topicals, diagnostic medications, Optomap, auto reflector, visual acuity, etc.
- Verbal interviewing patients to determine medical issues and reasons for their visit.
- Scheduling referral appointments with Ophthalmologists, Diagnostic follow-up visits, and other specialty referrals, and completing paperwork.
- Recording and maintaining patient records in compliance with company, federal, and state policies (HIPAA).
- Responding to patient inquiries regarding medication, treatment, and problems.
- Performing diagnostic testing using specialty equipment (OCT, Visual Field, Pachymetry, Retinal Camera, etc.) and documenting findings.
- Ensuring maximum schedule utilization through pre-appointment confirmation, daily appointment confirmation, and contacting patients to reschedule.
- Performing contact lens insertion and removal classes, managing trial inventory, and taking contact lens orders.
- Completing end-of-day responsibilities including opti-schedule wrap-up and end-of-day checklist.
- Cleaning and organizing the practice area to maintain cleanliness and visual appeal.
- Acting as a scribe for the Optometrist or performing refractions as needed.
Requirements
- Experience evaluating patients for eye exams and dispensing eye exam medications.
- Familiarity with medical terms associated with eye treatment.
- Experience maintaining patients’ records per HIPAA regulations.
- Industry certification (CPO, CPOA, CPOT).
Qualifications
- High School or GED qualification.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- PC skills including MC Office, Windows, and Word Processing.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with co-workers and patients.
