Opto-Mechanical Engineer, Amazon LEO
About the role
Amazon Leo is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world. We're looking for an Opto-Mechanical Engineer with a background in the design and analysis of precision optical systems for space and ground.
Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Responsibilities
- Use knowledge and experience in understanding, collaborating, and trading complex inputs from multiple other disciplines (Electrical, RF, Optics, Thermal, Dynamics, Mechanisms, Materials, Manufacturing, Assembly, and Test) to guide the team and arrive at a viable technical approach for an optical system.
- Generate detailed designs with CAD assemblies/components and drawings as deliverables.
- Coordinate with other engineers, manufacturing and assembly to ensure design intent and cost effectiveness of production are achieved
- Documentation and presentation of materials for technical design reviews.
- Design and support test campaigns, both development and qualification/acceptance, for space hardware
Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent is required, with 5+ years of working in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience.
- Experience with development, test, deployment of aerospace optical systems.
- Experience with specifying/justifying margins and test sequences, and qualifying space systems.
- Experience with GD&T and tolerance analysis.
- 3+ years of experience with mechanical analysis and FEA modeling
Preferred qualifications include experience leading engineering discussions around technology decisions and strategy related to a product.

Pay
The base salary range for this position is $136,000.00 - $184,000.00 USD annually. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
