About the role
The Optical Technician will contribute to a high-quality Total Patient Experience, enhancing retail sales while supporting patients' medical needs.
Responsibilities
- Execute the Total Patient Experience to build strong patient relationships and deliver exceptional medical support
- Determine patient needs and sell products to meet their expectations
- Select frames based on style and color, ensuring they align with facial and eye measurements and prescriptions
- Educate patients on specific lenses, coatings, and frames suitable for their needs
- Accurately measure patients for frames, including bridge, eye size, temple length, seg heights, vertex distance, pupillary distance, and pantoscopic tilt
- Dispense and adjust glasses and contact lens orders following established processes
- Operate and maintain auto-lensometer and manual lensometer
- Repair and adjust patient frames as needed
Qualifications
- Previous medical office experience preferred; previous ophthalmic experience strongly preferred
- Minimum of 1 year in a customer-facing role or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Favorable results on background checks as required by state
- Ability to provide proof of identity and right to work in the United States
Education and/or Experience
- High school diploma or GED required
Licenses and Credentials
- ABO and NCLE certifications preferred but not required
Systems and Technology
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook
Physical Requirements
- Frequent walking (75%)
- Sitting (50%)
- Standing (50%)
- Regular bending, stooping, and reaching (25–50%)
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull items up to 25 lbs
- Strong fine motor skills and full use of hands
- Visual and auditory acuity including color, depth, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus
- Occasional driving or climbing may be necessary
