About the role

Opticians play a crucial role in our business by selling eyewear and accessories to patients. They ensure patients are fitted with the right-size frames that meet their needs and lifestyle, and dispense lenses with the correct prescription and measurements.

Responsibilities

• Delivers extraordinary experience to each patient
• Provides patients with a complete understanding of customized recommendations for products and services
• Develops own clientele through outstanding service and referrals
• Keeps current on company/industry products and procedures, manufacturer rebates, and types of lenses and frames available
• Takes and returns patient calls, updating patients on the status of their order and resolving issues
• Escalates issues to the Store Manager
• Retrieves patient charts and electronic health records
• Aids patients in selecting frames, lens type, and lens treatments based on specific needs and facial measurements
• Edits patients on proper eyeglass and contact lens care
• Measures eyes and faces to ensure proper fit
• Interprets prescriptions and creates work orders for lab technicians
• Fulfills orders by inspecting products, adjusting as necessary, and gathering feedback
• Ensures visual acuity, proper fit, and patient comfort
• Uses tools like pupilometers, PD sticks, lensometers, pliers, wrenches, frame warmers, etc.
• Communicates with technicians and managers, providing additional patient information or asking for order statuses
• Inspects final products for flaws, cleans and polishes lenses, and maintains cleanliness of the store
• Restocks retail boards with new merchandise
• Understands and answers patients' questions about insurance, warranties, products, materials, services, pricing, upgrades, promotions, etc.
• Collaborates with technicians, front desk associates, Managers, and Optometrists
• Sells miscellaneous products such as cleaners, contact lens supplies, sunglasses, safety glasses, etc.
• Performs other duties as needed and assigned by the manager

Qualifications

• High School Diploma
• One year experience working as an Optician preferred
• Experience with HIPAA requirements preferred
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
• Strong customer service skills and pleasant demeanor, experience with sales preferred
• Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
• Dependability and punctuality
• Ability to lift up to 30 lbs, bend, kneel, and stand up to 8 hours a day
