About the role

The Optical Technician will contribute to a high-quality Total Patient Experience that enhances retail sales and supports patients' medical needs.

Responsibilities

  • Execute the Total Patient Experience to build strong relationships with patients and provide excellent medical support.
  • Determine patient needs and sell products to meet their expectations.
  • Select frames based on style and color, ensuring they align with facial and eye measurements and prescriptions.
  • Educate and recommend appropriate lenses, coatings, and frames to suit individual patient needs.
  • Accurately measure and collect data such as bridge, eye size, temple length, segment heights, vertex distance, pupillary distance, and pantoscopic tilt.
  • Dispense and adjust glasses and contact lens orders following established processes.
  • Operate and maintain auto-lensometer and manual lensometer equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant licenses and certifications (ABO and NCLE).

Qualifications

  • Previous medical office or ophthalmic experience preferred.
  • At least 1 year of customer service or patient interaction experience.
  • Favorable results on background checks as required by state law.
  • Ability to provide proof of identity and eligibility to work in the U.S.

Education and/or Experience

  • A high school diploma or GED is required.

Licenses and Credentials

  • ABO and NCLE certifications are preferred but not mandatory.

Systems and Technology

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent walking (75%), sitting (50%), and standing (50%) with occasional bending, stooping, and reaching (25–50%).
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull items up to 25 lbs.
  • Strong fine motor skills and full use of hands are essential.
  • Visual and auditory acuity including color, depth, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Occasional driving or climbing may be necessary.
