About the role

An Optical Technician (Optician) will achieve a world-class Total Patient Experience that maximizes retail sales while supporting patients’ medical needs. This team member dispenses and fits glasses and contacts based on prescriptions from Optometrists and Ophthalmologists, connecting patients’ needs to the goods and services offered.

Responsibilities

• Embrace and execute the Total Patient Experience to build relationships with patients while delivering great medical support
• Determine patients' wants and needs and sell to exceed their expectations
• Assist patients in selecting frames according to style, color, facial and eye measurements, and optical prescriptions
• Operate auto-lensometer and manual lensometer
• Educate and recommend specific lenses, lens coatings, and frames to suit patient needs
• Accurately collect measurements such as bridge, eye size, temple length, seg heights, vertex distance, pupillary distance, and pantoscopic tilt
• Dispense patient orders and repair or adjust frames
• Dispense all glasses and/or contact lens orders in E360
• Ensure all job aids and policies are followed
• Maintain frame standards with cleaning and organization of fully stocked and well-presented areas
• Follow protocols to keep frame inventory accurate
• Perform general office duties and cleaning as assigned by manager
• Assist with other duties in the office as needed

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required
• Previous medical office experience preferred; previous ophthalmic experience strongly preferred
• Minimum of 1 year in a position interacting with customers/patients or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Current ABO/ABOC and NCLE certifications preferred (or obtained within first 2 years of employment)
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
• Favorable result on background check as required by state
• Must provide proof of identity and right to work in the United States
• Must comply with HIPAA regulations regarding protected health information (PHI)

• Communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret insurance forms, safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
• Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees

Physical Requirements

• Frequent walking (75%), sitting (50%), and standing (50%)
• Regular bending, stooping, and reaching (25–50%)
• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull items up to 25 lbs
• Strong fine motor skills and full use of hands for constant grasping, writing/typing, and technology use
• Visual and auditory acuity, including color, depth, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus (required 100% of the time)
• Occasional driving or climbing may be necessary

Pay

Pay starts at $16/hr, plus bonus and commission.

Schedule

• Full-time
• Offices open Monday–Friday 8am–7pm, Saturday 8am–1pm
• Must have open availability to work any shift within these hours, including occasional earlier or later shifts as needed
