Optical Technician / Optical Sales

About the role

The Optical Technician will contribute to a high-quality Total Patient Experience that enhances retail sales and supports patient medical needs.

Responsibilities

• Execute the Total Patient Experience to build strong patient relationships and provide excellent medical support.
• Determine patient needs and sell products to meet their expectations.
• Select frames based on style and color, ensuring they align with facial and eye measurements and prescriptions.
• Educate patients on specific lenses, coatings, and frames suitable for their needs.
• Accurately measure patients for frames, including bridge, eye size, temple length, seg heights, vertex distance, pupillary distance, and pantoscopic tilt.
• Dispense and adjust patient frames, as well as manage all glasses and contact lens orders.
• Operate and calibrate auto-lensometers and manual lensometers.

Requirements

• Previous medical office experience preferred; previous ophthalmic experience strongly preferred.
• At least 1 year of customer interaction or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Favorable results on background checks as required by state.
• Ability to provide proof of identity and right to work in the United States.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• ABO and NCLE certifications preferred but not required.

Skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

• Frequent walking (75%), sitting (50%), and standing (50%)
• Regular bending, stooping, and reaching (25–50%)

• Strong fine motor skills and full use of hands
• Visual and auditory acuity including color, depth, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus
• Occasional driving or climbing may also be necessary
