About the role
The Optical Technician will contribute to a high-quality Total Patient Experience that enhances retail sales and supports patient medical needs.
Responsibilities
- Execute the Total Patient Experience to build strong patient relationships and provide excellent medical support.
- Determine patient needs and sell products to meet their expectations.
- Select frames based on style and color, ensuring they align with facial and eye measurements and prescriptions.
- Educate patients on specific lenses, coatings, and frames suitable for their needs.
- Accurately measure patients for frames, including bridge, eye size, temple length, seg heights, vertex distance, pupillary distance, and pantoscopic tilt.
- Dispense and adjust patient frames, as well as manage all glasses and contact lens orders.
- Operate and calibrate auto-lensometers and manual lensometers.
Requirements
- Previous medical office experience preferred; previous ophthalmic experience strongly preferred.
- At least 1 year of customer interaction or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Favorable results on background checks as required by state.
- Ability to provide proof of identity and right to work in the United States.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- ABO and NCLE certifications preferred but not required.
Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

- Frequent walking (75%), sitting (50%), and standing (50%)
- Regular bending, stooping, and reaching (25–50%)

- Visual and auditory acuity including color, depth, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus
- Occasional driving or climbing may also be necessary
