Optical/Quantum Physicist
About QuantumCell
We are a dynamic tech company in the biology space on a mission to decode and defeat the most complex brain disorders of our time. By converging next-generation sensing technologies, autonomous robotics, and cutting-edge AI, we are building the world's first high-fidelity virtual cell and virtual system model: a mechanistically anchored simulation of human biology that can predict how drugs will behave in a patient before a single trial is run.
The Role
We are seeking an exceptional scientific-minded Optical or Quantum Physicist to lead the innovation of biological sample characterization through optical detection with enhancements based on quantum effects. This is the most important innovative role at the core of our optical detection platform — generating non-destructive label-free high-resolution, perturbation-responsive dynamic data that feeds our multi-scale AI models.
You will work closely with our engineering and biology teams to understand the requirements and define and develop proprietary optical detection technology to meet our drug discovery needs.
What You Will Do
- Cultivate innovative research and development of non-destructive label-free sensing methods that leverage the latest technologies such as high-resolution optical microscopy, Raman Spectroscopy, quantum physics, etc.
- Design and set up experimental setups to explore and test new ideas and approaches.
- Build computational or analytical models to simulate the designed systems to predict potential feasibility and performance.
- Perform troubleshooting and iterative design improvements.
- Develop proprietary intellectual properties and work with IP attorneys on patent applications.
What You Will Bring
- PhD (or equivalent) in optics, physics, engineering or a related field, with significant research experience in optics and/or quantum physics.
- 5-10 years of research experience (PhD and Postdoc experience are acceptable).
- Experience in Raman Spectroscopy and quantum sensing is a strong plus.
- Hands-on experience in designing and conducting experiments is preferred.
- Proven track record of conducting independent research and delivering innovative results.
- Comfortable working at the interface of biology and emerging technologies — experience or strong interest in integrating novel measurement modalities (e.g., quantum sensing, high-content imaging, multi-omics) into cell biology workflows is a plus.
- A startup company mindset: comfortable operating in a fast-moving, early-stage environment where you'll help define processes, not just follow them.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across functions.
What We Offer
- Competitive compensation package (salary, equity, bonus) based on experience.
- Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision benefits.
- Access to world-class scientific collaborators and leading computational infrastructure, including large-scale GPU clusters and proprietary biological datasets of exceptional scale and resolution.
- A unique opportunity to help define how AI learns from biology at one of the most ambitious companies in CNS drug discovery.
- The chance to contribute to a deeply mission-driven organization focused on transforming patient outcomes and advancing treatments for complex diseases.
- Support for conference attendance and active participation in the scientific community.
- A collaborative, inclusive, and fun culture where you’ll play a key role in building the team, shaping the environment, and driving meaningful impact from the ground up.
