Optical Network Development Engineer, Network Product Development
About the role
AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. The IntraDC team is looking for an Optical Network Development Engineer to join our Network Product Development (NPD) team. You will design, implement, and support scalable testing infrastructure solutions to support and facilitate optics interconnect development and product deployment.
Responsibilities
- Develop automated tools and standardized processes for high-volume optical transceiver system level testing.
- Lead collaborative efforts with internal stakeholders and supplier partners to establish robust testing frameworks and quality assurance procedures for optical modules.
- Work with the network operations team to identify operational issues and improve quality and RMA processes.
- Engage stakeholders to identify areas of improvement during rack deployment or bring-up.
- Work with the network operations team to improve link error handling efficiency.
- Perform high-quality network and/or systems operations, deployments, scaling, technology refresh, sustaining engineering, best practices application, optimization, and internal/external customer interactions.
- Produce appropriate technical documentation.
- Stay abreast of emerging technologies, investigating and implementing where appropriate.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or above in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent.
- 1+ years of development/programming/scripting language (Python/Java/Bash/Perl) experience.
- 8+ years of work experience on optical communication systems or components.
- 8+ years of experience with optical transceivers and IEEE standards.
- 4+ years of experience developing test scripts for optics validation and characterization.
- 2+ years of experience working with optical and networking merchant silicon suppliers, manufacturing processes, and qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree or above in engineering, physics, or equivalent.
- 2+ years of experience in hardware and systems design, development, and troubleshooting.
- 1+ year of experience in the application of network design, including knowledge of major protocols, topology design, network hardware, device configuration, and traffic engineering.
- 1+ year of experience in database and AWS services.
- 1+ year of experience working with ODMs and component suppliers in delivering optical solutions.
- Meets/exceeds Amazon’s leadership principles requirements for this role.
- Meets/exceeds Amazon’s functional/technical depth and complexity for this role.
Pay
USA, CA, Cupertino - $157,300.00 - $212,800.00 USD annually. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
