This role supports Corning’s Advanced Optics engineering organization, which focuses on high-precision optical components and solutions for demanding applications.

About the role

  • Onsite in Rochester, NY, Monday–Friday, 40-hour week with flexibility as needed
  • Negligible travel (<5%), including training, customer visits, conferences, and trade shows
  • Occasional extra or off-hours support during periods of heightened project activity

Responsibilities

  • Build and qualify metrology equipment
  • Measure critical optical parameters
  • Interpret drawings and tolerances
  • Document test methods for manufacturing transfer
  • Support training on test and measurement tasks

Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • 3+ years of experience utilizing instrumentation for testing precision optical components
  • Hands-on metrology laboratory experience and industrial experience in optical metrology
  • Familiarity with optical shop phase measuring interferometers
  • Proficiency in Excel

Qualifications

  • A.S./A.A.S. in Optical Science (preferred)
  • Experience with interferometry, wavefront sensing, profilometry, precision tooling, polarization/polarimetry
  • Experience with aspheric measurement methods (sub-aperture stitching, null testing, CGH design and implementation) a plus
  • Understanding of geometrical optics and optical test methods
  • Strong presentation and technical writing skills
  • Proficiency with phase measuring software from Zygo, 4D, Apre, QED (preferred)

Pay

$60,821.00 – $83,629.00 per year (full-time). Starting pay depends on geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
