Optical Glass Production Engineer

Full-time position located in Oviedo, FL (near UCF).

About the role

The successful candidate will work as part of OptiGrate Glass Manufacturing, focusing on glass fabrication using the company's proprietary technology. Responsibilities include operating high-temperature furnaces, process analysis and development via computer control software, and glass characterization following in-house procedures.

This role requires excellent organizational skills, strict adherence to quality assurance and engineering controls, and creative scientific collaboration with engineers holding advanced degrees in materials science and chemistry.

Responsibilities

• Operate high-temperature furnaces for glass fabrication.
• Engage in process analysis and development using computer control software.
• Perform glass characterization following in-house developed procedures.
• Maintain rigorous adherence to quality assurance and engineering controls.
• Collaborate with engineers and scientists to innovate and troubleshoot processes.
• Conduct equipment maintenance and resolve instrumentation issues.
• Use software applications such as LabView for data processing and MS Office for reporting results.

Requirements

• MS or Ph.D. degree in materials science or chemical engineering.
• 3-5 years of laboratory experience in material processing and characterization.
• Practical knowledge of material analysis techniques.
• Strong attention to numerical and engineering details.
• Experience in equipment maintenance and instrumentation troubleshooting.
• Proficiency in software applications such as LabView and MS Office.

Preferred Qualifications

• Hands-on experience in glass fabrication.
• Experience operating glass fabrication furnaces and glass testing instrumentation.
