Responsibilities

  • Conduct innovative research in optical fiber technology, focusing on data transmission, fiber amplification, and distributed sensing.
  • Disseminate findings at technical conferences and communicate directly with key customers.
  • Design and assemble testing systems for the performance of fiber products.
  • Contribute to external publications and generate intellectual property.
  • Collaborate with the optical fiber fabrication team to improve fiber designs.
  • Interact with teams developing fiber-related components such as fiber sensors, telecommunications devices, and fiber amplifiers.
  • Develop and execute an R&D program to support Lightera's manufacturing sites, including a long-term technology roadmap.
  • Support marketing and sales teams by providing technical expertise and applications engineering.
  • Work with customers to demonstrate improved optical fiber products.
  • Perform other related duties as required by management.

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in Optics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Expertise in waveguide photonics, optical fiber amplifiers, transmission theory, and systems architecture.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, preferably demonstrated through past publications or presentations.
  • Proven laboratory experience with optical components and fibers.
  • Experience with lab automation, computer skills, and proficiency in AI tools.
  • Ability to understand and perform optical simulations.
  • Quick learning ability and effective work under minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Word and Excel.
  • Maintain discretion regarding confidential and proprietary information.
  • Comply with Lightera’s safety policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to Lightera’s Standards of Conduct.
