About The Role

As an Optical Consultant, you'll support all aspects of patient care and education alongside Optometrists to ensure exceptional patient experiences.

  • Perform preliminary evaluations of patients prior to exams, such as dilation, topicals, diagnostic medications, Optomap, auto refractor, visual acuity, etc.
  • Conduct verbal interviews with patients to determine medical issues and reasons for their visit, providing details to the Optometrist.
  • Schedule referral appointments with Ophthalmologists, diagnostic follow-up visits, and other specialty referrals; complete related paperwork.
  • Record and maintain patient records/files in compliance with company, federal, and state policies (HIPAA).
  • Respond to patient telephone inquiries regarding medication, treatment, or problems, referring to the Optometrist as necessary.
  • Perform diagnostic testing using specialty equipment (OCT, Visual Field, Pachymetry, Retinal Camera, etc.).
  • Document medical findings and communication between Optometrist and patient in Electronic Health Records (EHR); assist with clerical duties related to medical documentation, including checking CPT codes and billings.
  • Ensure maximum schedule utilization through pre-appointment confirmation, daily appointment confirmation, contacting patients from recall listings, and rescheduling no-shows or canceled appointments.
  • Perform contact lens insertion and removal classes (I&R); manage contact lens trial inventory, check-in, and take orders in person or by phone.
  • Complete end-of-day responsibilities, including opti-schedule wrap-up and end-of-day checklist.
  • Clean and organize frame boards, displays, mirrors, workbench, and office area to maintain overall cleanliness and visual appeal.
  • Act as a scribe for the Optometrist or perform refractions as needed.
  • Perform other duties within the practice as requested.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED qualification.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in PC skills, including Microsoft Office, Windows, and word processing.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively collaborate with co-workers and patients.
