Duties/Responsibilities
- Open and close exam lanes and ensure all supplies are stocked
- Communicate patient flow with the team to keep the schedules running on time
- Maintain a clean and tidy work environment and waiting area for patients
- Completes various documents and forms, such as consent forms, work releases, etc.
- Take patients' medical histories and perform ophthalmic diagnostic exams
- Operate ophthalmic equipment
- Sterilize instruments to maintain ophthalmic instruments or equipment
- Help instruct the patient in the care and treatment of eye conditions
- Ensure all medical records are accurate and complete
- Triage phone calls from patients and outside contacts
- Perform other duties as required
Requirements
- Basic knowledge of medical coding terminology and conventions
- Proficiency with computers, Microsoft Office products, and G-suite environment
- Willing to help in all areas, have the flexibility, and effectively work in a team environment
- Able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
- Enjoy working with the elderly population
- Demonstrated excellence in communication skills and ability to convey ideas and information verbally and in writing
- Professional appearance, strong interpersonal skills, and patient confidentiality
- Strong organizational skills with an attention to detail
Education And Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- One (1) year of experience as an ophthalmic assistant, experienced COA or COT preferred
- Maintains appropriate education, certification, licensure, and training
