POSITION SUMMARY
This position works with the ophthalmologist to provide an efficient patient care environment that enhances both patient and provider satisfaction by providing clerical assistance.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Be present for patient evaluations to efficiently create and edit the patient medical record based on the patient encounter
- Record patient subjective history and provider objective findings
- Document procedures performed by the provider(s)
- Perform other clerical tasks that optimize efficiency
- Accurately records all information in EMR system according to established standards and requirements
- Secures patient information and maintains patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records, completing diagnostic and procedure coding, and keeping patient information confidential
- Maintains a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following established EMG policies and procedures
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Work is completed in an office and/or clinical healthcare setting with little exposure to harsh conditions and hazards
- Training, Certification and/or Personal Protective Equipment is provided when necessary
- Incumbent will have the ability to move freely and may be required to sit or stand for long periods of time
- May be required to balance, bend/stoop, stretch, push/pull, kneel, reach and lift up to 25 lbs. to perform essential duties and responsibilities of the role
- Hand and eye coordination, finger dexterity and the ability to communicate both verbally and in writing
- Is required to travel to and from office locations as needed
- Daily operation of various office equipment: fax machine, telephone & voice mail operating system
- Stationary/laptop computer, e-mail system, & copier
QUALIFICATIONS
- High School diploma or equivalent required
- Healthcare experience preferred, but not required
- Medical terminology and/or anatomy and physiology course completion or equivalent experience
- Current BLS certification, or completion of certification course within 6 months of date of hire
- Experience or interest in learning ophthalmic scribing and testing
- Interest in pursuing the medical field as a preferred career
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
- Keeps abreast of advances on ophthalmic care within subspecialty
- Participates in continuing education programs for professional development and meeting requirements for recertification
- Pursues new skills including skilled ophthalmic testing and ophthalmic scribe certification
- Participates in all required staff meetings and keeps abreast of all updated EMG policies
