About the Role

As an Ophthalmic Technician, you will perform a number of pre-exam diagnostic tests, collect and update patient health information to allow our physicians to properly treat and diagnose patients, and educate patients on the purpose and details of their appointments. You will also ensure patients receive the highest level of care during their office visits.

Responsibilities

• Welcome and establish rapport with patients
• Initiate patient evaluation and accurately document chief complaint, history of present illness, review of systems, current ocular and general medications, and all other pertinent ocular findings in accordance with compliance guidelines
• Inform and educate patients on the purpose of tests being performed and how they will be affected during those tests
• Perform pre-exam testing, including:
  • Visual acuity assessment (including pinhole)
  • Confrontational visual field testing
  • Assessment of extraocular muscles
  • Pupillary evaluation
  • Tonometry
  • Pupillary dilation
  • Optical Coherence Tomography
  • Other patient services and special tests (e.g., color vision screening) as requested by the physician
• Assist in the efficient movement of patients through clinic flow
• Maintain working knowledge of eye terminology, anatomy, pathologies, and ocular pharmacology
• Carry out job responsibilities in an ethical, effective, and professional manner
• Thoroughly understand and follow proper triage protocol
• Perform opening and closing duties on clinic days
• Ensure daily cleaning and stocking of each exam room with necessary supplies
• Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly environment for patients, their families, and clinical personnel, including:
  • Maintaining supplies, equipment, and forms
  • Notifying appropriate personnel when cleaning supplies or equipment repairs are needed
• Be a proficient user of EHR programs (NexTech IntelleChartPRO) and possess a basic understanding of the practice management system (NextGen)
