About the Role

The Ophthalmic Assistant plays a critical role in delivering high-quality patient care by accurately obtaining and documenting detailed medical histories and performing a variety of ophthalmic tests as directed by the physician.

  • Conduct preliminary eye assessments
  • Administer diagnostic tests
  • Prepare patients for exams
  • Ensure examination rooms and equipment are properly maintained
  • Support administrative and business functions to maintain the clinic’s efficient daily operations
  • Contribute to a positive and seamless patient experience

  • First to offer LASIK laser vision correction in East Texas, with tens of thousands of procedures performed
  • Wide range of premium lenses, including Symfony Extended Depth of Focus, PanOptix®, and Vivity® lenses for freedom from glasses and contacts after cataract surgery
  • First in East Texas to offer the RxSight Light Adjustable Lens, allowing patients to preview and adjust their vision post-surgery

Responsibilities

  • Perform patient workups: obtain and document exam information, perform testing prior to the exam
  • Conduct special testing as ordered by the physician
  • Return patient phone calls
  • Scribe for the doctor(s)
  • Complete reports
  • Protect patients' rights by maintaining confidentiality of personal and financial information
  • Maintain operations by following policies and procedures; reporting needed changes
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Extraordinary customer service and team member relations – required
  • Medical experience is a plus but not required
  • Multiline phone system experience preferred
  • Willingness to grow
  • Driven, responsible, and takes ownership of the position

  • Strong time management and organizational skills

  • Valid driver’s license

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (Associate Degree preferred)
  • Preferred 2 years of previous ophthalmic or optometric patient care or medical office experience (willing to train the right candidate)
  • Preferred COA certification (will assist in obtaining certification if not already certified)
