As an Operator-in-Training based in Hood River, OR, you’ll join a collaborative team ensuring our municipal clients deliver uninterrupted services. You’ll perform a variety of tasks in the operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant, including equipment maintenance and quality control testing. Your role will contribute to efficient preventive maintenance and effective solutions to challenges in municipal facilities.

Responsibilities

• Operate treatment facilities to control flow and processing of water/wastewater, sludge, and effluent.
• Observe variations in operating conditions and interpret meter and gauge readings.
• Collect samples and maintain shift logs.
• Perform preventive maintenance on equipment.
• Address challenges that arise in municipal facilities with effective solutions.
• Ensure the safety, health, and well-being of yourself and your team.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Basic experience in operating water/wastewater treatment plants.
• Basic understanding of computer software, including Microsoft Office Suite, and ability to enter data into a maintenance management system.
• A valid driver’s license with no major infractions.
• WW Operator Level 1 certification.

This position requires passing a Fitness for Duty test to ensure you are physically and functionally fit to perform essential physical work functions without posing a direct threat to health or safety. Physical demands include standing, walking, sitting, coordination, balance, agility, stooping, kneeling, squatting, grasping, reaching, and repetitive hand movements. Additional demands may involve dexterity, grip strength, climbing, and cardiorespiratory fitness.

Work environments may include indoor/outdoor areas, loud noise, active machinery, high-pressure fluid systems, electrical equipment, confined spaces, heights, depths, fumes, airborne particles, noxious gases, and chemicals. Use of appropriate safety equipment is mandatory.

Qualifications

• A current, or working towards obtaining, a first-level water/wastewater treatment certification.
• Basic familiarity with the principles and practices of water/wastewater treatment plant operations, valves, pumps, and motors.

Pay

The base salary range for this position is $56,160.00 per year, paid hourly based on hours worked.
