About the role

The Operator I position is part of a team that operates multiple unit processes in an industrial facility to meet operational requirements. This role involves understanding and applying knowledge of treatment processes, monitoring and troubleshooting equipment, and performing a variety of maintenance tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Operate equipment manually and through instrumentation panels, computer terminals, and programmable logic control units following process control procedures.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot equipment failures, execute necessary repairs, and ensure operational continuity.
  • Perform predictive and corrective maintenance on various types of equipment including pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical, instrumentation, PLC logic, and mechanical maintenance.
  • Collect and analyze water, wastewater, industrial waste, groundwater, sludge, residuals, and gas samples according to schedule.
  • Prepare chemical solutions, monitor supplies, and recommend reorder quantities.
  • Calibrate and maintain lab and field equipment and instrumentation, including pH meters, specific ion meters, analytical balances, furnaces, ovens, pipettes, titrators, and automatic samplers.
  • Execute detailed inspections of system components to evaluate process performance and integrity.
  • Coordinate contractor activities while ensuring process operations are maintained.
  • Control and create documents within the Utilities departments, and maintain the department.
  • Respond to client concerns related to the Utility department and inform management.
  • Prepare, review, and modify procedures related to the Utilities department.
  • Report the department’s performance status and quality improvements to the Operations and Maintenance Manager.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • Skilled vocational trade training and/or 2-4 years on-the-job equivalent training in related industrial operations, mechanical maintenance, electrical/instrumentation, or PLC experience in a utilities environment.
  • Knowledge of methods, principles, and practices of operating, maintaining, and repairing utility equipment, instrumentation, and associated systems.
  • Proficiency with computer programs for process control, Computer Maintenance Management System, and laboratory/industrial pretreatment QA/QC.
  • Technical proficiency in replacing mechanical seals, bearings, oil seals, gaskets, and other critical components.
  • Experience performing maintenance and technical repairs on various hydraulic systems, including centrifugal, dosing, and submersible pumps.
  • Skilled in the upkeep and repair of mechanical agitators and associated industrial machinery.
  • Demonstrated capability in interpreting technical drawings, including exploded views and assembly diagrams.
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend English (operational, process, safety, and quality instructions).
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and willingness to assume additional or new responsibilities readily.
  • Knowledge of current and pending utilities standards, regulations, and federal, state, and local laws and codes.
  • Valid driver's license and safe driving record.
  • Pass a drug test and a criminal background check.
  • Hold or be working toward the highest level /Certification and highest-level license as required by site.

  • Technical proficiency in replacing mechanical seals, bearings, oil seals, gaskets, and other critical components.
  • Experience performing maintenance and technical repairs on various hydraulic systems, including centrifugal, dosing, and submersible pumps.
  • Skilled in the upkeep and repair of mechanical agitators and associated industrial machinery.
  • Demonstrated capability in interpreting technical drawings, including exploded views and assembly diagrams.
  • Must demonstrate a working ability to use computer programs for process control.
  • Must have the ability to read, write, and comprehend English (operational, process, safety, and quality instructions).
  • Must have the ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Must demonstrate ability to work in a team environment and willingness to assume additional or new responsibilities readily.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of current and pending utilities standards, regulations, and federal, state, and local laws and codes.
  • Must be able to serve rotational 24-hour emergency on-call if required by site.
  • Must be able to respond to emergency calls as needed and work extended hours to accommodate site needs.
