Responsibilities

  • Perform all job functions within the Operator II classification.
  • Be flexible in job assignments that may change several times a day.
  • Read, understand, and comprehend orders to determine style, compound, and quantities using basic math for ordering, verifying, measuring, and counting.
  • Use a tape measure reading 16ths.
  • Ensure trailer wheels are chocked; raise/lower dock plates; hook/unhook hydraulic hoses; carry pressure and locking bars and secure in trailers; raise squeeze doors from floor to vertical position; clean out trailers.
  • Load and unload trailers (e.g., buns, bales) with lifts and by hand; transport within the plant.
  • Unload baler and stack bales.
  • Pull buns from inventory based on schedule/order and return to inventory; pull tickets from buns.
  • Accurately and legibly complete required paperwork; report any deficiencies.
  • Load and stack product into carts to heights above head.
  • Cut fiber/foam on saw, bag, and transport product using various means; carry and push scrap carts and buggies.
  • Operate lift truck on the production floor; load and unload trailers safely; change propane tank.
  • Determine and draw layouts using nesting techniques for optimal foam utilization; obtain patterns from rack and re-hang.
  • Transport foam, place onto machine, cut, unload, write pertinent information on cut product, and place in staging area; complete required paperwork.
  • Use Contour Book to determine schedule and use keyboard.
  • Run several machines simultaneously by utilizing efficiencies based on machine cycle times.
  • Cut foam/fiber of all types, styles, and sizes (e.g., pattern, straight rail) on auto vertical, bandsaw, and contour machines.
  • Inspect buns for tears, splits, and defects; plan cutting for maximum yield.
  • Use discretion when accepting/rejecting foam to be cut.
  • Make blade adjustments on cutting units to specified dimensions; activate blades and conveyors from consoles.
  • Check dimensions of material for conformance to cutting instructions and standard allowances.
  • Generate and/or affix bun tickets to buns; record production figures; enter order information into computer terminal.
  • Continuously check for proper equipment conditions; notify supervisor of operational concerns.
  • Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures.
  • Load scrap into carts and transport to/from grinder room.
  • Perform monthly roll inventory.
  • Roll up flat sheet stock while sitting, tie with string, and throw roll over the head to the floor for loading.
  • Retrieve full scrap carts; remove scrap foam from carts, buggies, and floor; place into baler.
  • Set machine settings, operate baling unit, tie bales, remove from unit using lift truck, and complete paperwork.
  • Stay updated on all changes in product and process; know how to check for quality problems and where to find answers; understand quality standards of products produced.
  • Promote and support an environment of cooperation.
  • Take direction from multiple supervisors and leaders.
  • Work independently under general direction to set priorities, manage workload, meet deadlines, and accomplish goals despite changing deadlines and interruptions.
  • Anticipate and remove obstacles affecting jobs; find simpler, faster, and less costly ways to produce results while maintaining high quality.
  • Demonstrate sufficient endurance for tasks assigned over long periods (e.g., 12 hours/day, 6 days/week to meet customer-driven workloads).
  • Maintain good housekeeping by sweeping, emptying trash, etc.
  • Assist production supervision as required.
