Operator Grinder

Duties & Responsibilities

• Safely controls the machine using buttons, pedals and levers to grind waste wood into usable wood chip products.
• Operates independently, following detailed work plans and specifications.
• Clears and trims trees and brush away from utility lines, communicating safe machine and log movement activities using a radio.
• Maintains special safety gear, climbs off & onto the chipper, and walks on uneven terrain.
• Performs machine basic service, refuels, diagnoses, and minor repairs.
• May be responsible for other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• 1+ years of work experience as a log loader operator or operator of other forestry equipment; OR 1+ years of previous experience operating farm machinery or similar heavy equipment.
• Able to read and comprehend verbal and written instructions.
• Able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Able to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
• Experience with Doppstadt, Vermeer, and Diamond Z grinders.
• Able to maintain the above listed grinders.

Physical Demands

• Regularly stands, walks, uses hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.
• Frequently climbs or balances and stoops, kneels, crouches, or crawls.
• Regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions, vibration, and high, precarious places.
• Occasionally exposed to noise levels that are usually very loud.
