Key Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain construction equipment including excavators, backhoes, pipe bursting winch systems, air compressors, vacuum trucks (when required), small support equipment, and trench tools.
- Dig launch pits and receiving pits.
- Excavate for service reconnections.
- Set and position pipe bursting equipment.
- Loading and unloading pipe and materials.
- Assist with trench backfill and restoration.
- Assist with setup and operation of pipe bursting equipment.
- Help align bursting rods and pulling systems.
- Support the installation of replacement pipe.
- Absorb and assist with staging pipe and materials along the jobsite.
Equipment Setup & Maintenance
- Inspect equipment daily for safety and mechanical issues.
- Perform basic maintenance including fueling, greasing, and cleaning.
- Report equipment problems to supervisors immediately.
- Ensure equipment is operated safely and efficiently.
Crew Support
- Aid crew members with general construction duties when equipment operation is not required.
- Help stage tools, pipe, and materials.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
Required Skills
- Ability to operate excavators and backhoes safely and efficiently.
- Experience working around underground utilities.
- Knowledge of construction equipment operation.
- Experience in underground utility construction preferred.
- Experience working around trenching or excavation.
- Preferred qualifications: CDL license, OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work around heavy equipment and excavations.
