Operator

About the role

This role is responsible for producing a quality product efficiently, including set up, calibration, and production changeovers. The operator assists Maintenance Techs with preventative maintenance and breakdown tasks to minimize downtime, directs other production and support employees, and performs administrative duties.

Responsibilities

• Operate annealing, cleaning, and slitting equipment for copper, brass, and alloy strip production.
• Operate material handling equipment (forklift, crane, etc.).
• Utilize shop floor MES computer program to determine production tasks, equipment parameters, and quality deliverables.
• Ensure equipment is maintained and used in accordance with company health and safety regulations; report service requests as needed.
• Collaborate with the maintenance department to complete tasks and minimize downtime.
• Follow direction from department leaders and collaborate with team members to achieve department goals.
• Perform routine inspections of work areas to ensure cleanliness and safety.
• Follow company and OSHA safety procedures; report problems to Supervisor, Safety, or HR.
• Adhere to daily procedures and protocols from job orientations and trainings.
• Attend meetings and refresher courses to ensure responsible equipment operation.
• Work in other departments as needed and perform general labor tasks.
• Participate in daily housekeeping of warehouse and work area.
• Perform measurements and visual inspections of material; record results and verify conformance to requirements.
• Participate in Continuous Improvement activities.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Adherence to health and safety regulations, including constant use of protective gear.
• Ability to read and understand packaging and shipping documents.
• Ability to read a tape measure and vernier caliper.
• Ability to navigate a preprogrammed data recording system and troubleshoot common machine issues.
• Capability to sit, stand, walk, and reach with hands or arms for extended periods.
• Frequently stoop, kneel, crouch, or climb stairs; occasionally twist and walk while handling cases of product.
• Fundamental math skills.
• Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency.
• Lift up to fifty (50) pounds occasionally.
• Use hands and fingers to handle, touch, or manipulate items.
• Demonstrate good judgment and ask questions as needed.
• Attentive to detail and alert at all times to ensure safety.
• Maintain safety as a high priority in all aspects of responsibility.
• Vision abilities including proximate vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
• Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills.
• High School Diploma or equivalency.
• Metals experience preferred but not required.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Three years of manufacturing experience or heavy labor experience.

Pay

Starting pay: $32.17 per hour.

Schedule

Rotating swing shift on a bi-weekly pay schedule.
