Operator Apprentice

About the Role

This is an entry-level Operator Apprentice position designed for self-motivated individuals who will advance into progressively skilled roles. The successful applicant will receive appropriate training and must be willing to cross-train within any department.

Responsibilities

  • Perform entry-level lumberyard duties, including housekeeping tasks such as shoveling, groundskeeping, painting, and janitorial work.
  • Stack various lengths of lumber.
  • Work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Monitor lumber movement and ensure no cross-ups occur.
  • Clear jammed lumber as necessary.
  • Assist others as needed.
  • Perform quality checks and safety observations.
  • Follow all Safe Work Procedures and Zero Energy State procedures.
  • Utilize downtime to enhance department appearance and productivity.
  • Complete job assignments effectively and timely with minimal supervision.
  • Operate necessary equipment according to procedures.
  • Monitor assigned areas visually and via monitor screens.
  • Remove or straighten cross-ups using a pike pole or picaroon.
  • Inspect, service, and make minor adjustments to equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and assist with equipment servicing.
  • Clean equipment and document/report results.
  • Perform daily greasing of necessary equipment.
  • Train others within the department and cross-train on other equipment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum age of 18 years.
  • Excellent safety record and adherence to all safety criteria.
  • Willingness to work any shift.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent attendance record.
  • Proven mechanical aptitude and basic maintenance skills.
  • Capability to troubleshoot and diagnose problems within the department or related equipment.
  • Able to maintain or assist with maintaining assigned areas and equipment.
  • Capability to perform preventative maintenance on assigned machines.
  • Able to climb ladders and work in elevated workplaces.
  • Capable of working in tight or confined spaces.
  • Ability to perform quality control checks and adjustments.
  • Ability to maintain department cleanliness and housekeeping standards.
  • Willingness and ability to learn basic computer-related operating skills.
  • Willingness to train others and cross-train on other equipment.

Qualifications (Preferred)

  • Minimum of six (6) months in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
