About the Role

The Electrical Distribution Operation Center has opportunities for Operators 1-12 (1st year designation). Operators 1-12 are responsible for assisting in the safe and reliable operation, dispatching and restoration of the APS electrical distribution system as assigned. Successful candidates will be trained to perform the basic responsibilities of distribution operations including planned and emergent switching, issuing of clearances and contact tags, and Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS) management.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the safe and reliable operation, dispatching, and restoration of the APS electrical distribution system.
  • Perform planned and emergent switching.
  • Issue clearances and contact tags.
  • Manage the Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS).
  • Conduct research and perform basic data analyses to troubleshoot, resolve, and effectively communicate outage issues.
  • Work on-call assignments and extended hours in a 24/7 environment.
  • Occasional out-of-town assignments.
  • Maintain focus on department objectives to maximize safety, customer service, reliability, productivity, and efficiency.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 3 years of relevant business experience in the electrical distribution operations field, communications, or related customer service experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft operating systems and the use of other computer systems, such as TOA (Total Outage application) and ADMS (preferred).
  • Ability to differentiate between colors.
  • Ability to perform under stressful conditions.
  • Flexibility for on-call assignments and occasional out-of-town assignments.
  • Must live within reasonable distance of headquarters (1 hour for Metro and State Region locations).
  • Must be a U.S. person (U.S. Citizen, U.S. Lawful Permanent Resident, Political Asylee, or Refugee) due to U.S. Export Control Laws.

Preferred Qualifications

  • College-level degree in an electrical discipline.
  • Equivalent experience as a Journeyman Lineman or Journeyman Electrician.
  • Other relevant experience in the electric utility industry.

Selection Process

  • Pass a written aptitude exam (SO/PD).
  • Oral interview.
  • Resume required.

Testing Information

  • A written (paper and pencil) test will be administered.
  • A test using a computer with keyboard will be administered.
  • A hands-on skills test will be administered.
  • Email will be the method of contact for test scheduling.

Role Type

Onsite: Requires work to be performed in the field and/or at an APS facility. Employees are expected to reside in Arizona (or New Mexico for Four Corners-based employees). The established headquarters for this position is subject to relocation to the Hub West Service Center, 38 miles west of downtown Phoenix, on a date to be determined by the Company.
