About the Role

Penske Logistics is seeking a proven leader to supervise drivers and operations at one of our locations. The Operations Supervisor provides direction to individual contributors and hourly workforce, ensuring customer requirements are met while aligning with Penske’s goals. This role involves overseeing daily tasks such as driver deliveries, loading/unloading of trailers, and customer service operations to meet company service and cost objectives. The supervisor is responsible for performance management, corrective actions, disciplinary decisions, and involvement in hiring processes and customer meetings.

Schedule

Monday - Friday, 10:00 PM - 8:00 AM (Hours vary depending on business needs).

Responsibilities

  • People:
    • Ensure all supervisors and associates are trained and understand how their work relates to customer business objectives.
    • Communicate specific and measurable performance standards.
    • Interview hourly associates and provide hiring recommendations.
    • Monitor attendance, productivity, and performance standards; provide coaching and counseling.
    • Motivate and engage associates through team accomplishments and recognition.
  • Operations:
    • Supervise logistics operations including customer service, freight loading/unloading, dispatch, and documentation control.
    • Conduct team meetings and evaluate work methods to increase productivity.
    • Assist in new associate training and provide relief coverage for operational duties.
    • Maintain thorough knowledge of site operating systems for compliance and exception resolution.
    • Complete records and reports accurately and timely.
  • Finance:
    • Ensure compliance with financial policies (e.g., tracking MPG, returns, damages).
    • Understand the relationship between decision-making and profitability.
    • Manage associates' working hours to minimize overtime and meet productivity targets.
  • Safety:
    • Align day-to-day management and associate activities with the location safety strategy.
    • Provide safety communication, training, feedback, and direction.
    • Ensure compliance with regulatory agencies and company policies.
    • Conduct safety observations.
  • Growth / Customer Experience:
    • Understand and exceed location-specific customer goals and objectives.
    • Demonstrate commitment to helping customers meet their objectives.
    • Identify areas for Continuous Improvement efforts.
  • Fleet/Assets:
    • Plan work assignments for effective use of fleet equipment.
    • Ensure associates understand safe and efficient equipment operation.
    • Collaborate with vendors and Penske Truck Leasing for equipment maintenance.
  • Other projects and tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated leadership qualities with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to connect, build rapport, and maintain relationships with associates, leadership, and customers.
  • Strong time management, organizational, and independent work skills.
  • Excellent written/oral communication and active listening skills.
  • Ability to manage problems, think critically, and make decisions independently.
  • Experience driving process improvement and leading change.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Ownership and responsibility to run operations with a sense of urgency.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Regular, predictable, full attendance is essential.
  • Willingness to travel as necessary, work the required schedule, and complete employment processes (background investigation, drug screening).
