About the role
The Supervisor, Gas Operations provides leadership, planning, and direction for internal projects, programs, and personnel in distribution, construction, and maintenance. Responsibilities include cost and resource management, sales functions, installation, technical, and construction or engineering leadership.
Responsibilities
- Schedule, assign and monitor the work of field personnel, crews, and contractors.
- Provide oversight of and support to field personnel, ensuring proper work methods are applied and safety and environmental precautions are followed.
- Oversee and manage internal projects, providing project status and forecasting to Site Manager.
- Provide oversight and management of annual tasks and surveys to ensure compliance and timely completion (Meter Age Changes, Leak Surveys, Patrols, etc.).
- Collaborate with Training Department to schedule annual and ongoing training of internal personnel.
- Make site visits and spot inspections as needed.
- Field complaints and implement solutions in collaboration with Site Manager.
- Serve as local contact for all City Managers regarding city projects and/or conflicts with existing infrastructure.
- Be available after hours for Emergency support.
- Provide oversight of all internal processes, paperwork, timesheets, as-builts, etc. completed on-time and correctly before submission.
- Assist with local permitting as needed while working with Land and Environmental Departments.
- Assist additional departments as needed for pre-planning of scope of project, securing easements, providing additional information to Design or Engineering.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state and local laws and interface with appropriate agencies.
- Assist Site Manager with basic engineering tasks, reviewing capacity needs and sizing for daily gas service installs and meter installs to ensure proper sizing and capacity is delivered to customers.
- Prepare and submit bid and proposals, ensuring effective engineering design of projects and adherence to company policy and engineering standards, safe work practices and compliance.
- Responsible for communication with internal and external customers.
- Support past construction projects.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Serve as a People Leader with supervisory responsibilities.
- Develop, mentor, and coach team members to achieve performance goals by utilizing leadership routines such as weekly check-ins, monthly team meetings, quarterly skills coaching, and annual reviews.
- Identify effective goals and objectives for the team and implement a plan to execute them.
Requirements
- Prior leadership or management experience, including interacting with/managing union employees.
- Considerable related experience (natural gas pipeline distribution and/or natural gas pipeline construction and maintenance) or experience in other related industries.
- Full knowledge of pipeline distribution system; construction work methods; maintenance and repair; operations guidelines; cost analysis; customer service; safety protocols.
- Strong communication skills, oral and written.
- Organizational, project, and time management skills.
- Experience with Microsoft Office and SAP.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree and 3+ years directly related experience, or
- Associate’s Degree and 5+ years of directly related experience, or
- High school diploma and 7+ years of directly related experience.
Directly related experience includes: Natural Gas pipeline distribution experience; construction; maintenance and repair; operations; customer service, leadership.
Physical Requirements
- Remain stationary for prolonged periods of time.
- Operate a computer and other office productivity machinery as necessary.
- Communicate with others to accurately exchange information and ideas.
- Observe details at close range.
- Ability to walk long distances over variable terrain.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to climb ladders and work from elevated work surfaces.
- Ability to crawl, stoop, and work in limited spaces, on scaffolding, and in awkward positions.
Work Context
- Minimum travel for work-related purposes is expected 25% of the time, which includes some overnight visits to locations and industry events.
- Possession and maintenance of a state-issued driver’s license is required due to varied and potentially remote work locations.
- Work locations may include the office, any operating location of the company, or field sites as needed.
- This is a full-time exempt position.
