Operations Officer
Position Summary
Under the direct supervision of the Operations Supervisor, the Operations Officer is a technical and compliance-driven position responsible for maintaining airport safety, security, and operational efficiency. This role involves conducting inspections of the airfield, terminal facilities, and other district facilities/property, taking corrective action on any unsafe or hazardous conditions, and providing continuous monitoring of airport activity.
Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
- Covers airport operations during assigned shift, ensuring the safety and security of the public, tenants, and airport staff.
- Dispatches, monitors, and coordinates radio communications with emergency personnel.
- Processes emergency telephone and other incoming phone calls.
- Maintains the Airport Security Access Control System (ASACS) and monitors intrusion alarms, fire alarms, screening point alarms, and other alarms requiring an emergency response.
- Performs criminal record checks via SLED/CJIS and provides input and feedback on policies, procedures, and practices.
- Maintains current knowledge of airport rules, regulations, policies, procedures, directives, etc., and coordinates with the Facilities Department on airfield repairs and maintenance.
- Ensures compliance with FAA, TSA, and other local, state regulations, including implementing wildlife and snow/ice control procedures.
- Assists with airport security and identification functions, including badging and training.
- Coordinates construction activities and ensures safe vehicle operations on movement and non-movement areas.
- Enforces compliance with the District's Rules and Regulations and Airport Security Program.
- Issues and files NOTAMs to report conditions impacting aircraft operations and ensures timely communication to FAA, air carriers, and other airport users.
Education
A graduate of an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in aviation management or a related field, preferred.
Experience
A minimum of one to three years' work experience in the aviation sector or related field, preferred. Relevant experience includes police/fire dispatching, military, or telecommunications, and familiarity with FAA and DHS regulations. CAD experience is preferred.
Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- High proficiency in using a personal computer, including Microsoft Office applications.
- Skills in prioritization, organization, communications, interpersonal relations, and managing multiple projects.
- Excellent verbal, non-verbal, and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate on multiple radio frequencies.
- Attentiveness to work procedures to minimize potential risks.

Licenses
- Valid Driver's License, required.
Physical Demands
- Regularly lifts and/or moves up to 25 pounds, occasionally up to 50 pounds.
- May be subject to recall outside of scheduled tours of duty.
- Works 24/7 in the Airport Operations Center, with weekend and holiday shifts.
- Rotating shift assignments and some overtime duty.
- Subject to physical activities including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, feeling, talking, hearing, grasping, and repetitive motions.
- Specific vision abilities include close-up, distance, color, peripheral vision, and depth perception, with visual acuity to analyze data and figures and operate a computer.
- Mental and/or Visual Demand - Requires diligence in handling confidential information and reasonable care for equipment/processes to prevent injury/damage.
