About the Role
This is a paid 40-hour-per-week, hands-on internship within Target’s Supply Chain Operations. As an Operations Intern, you’ll gain firsthand experience leading a team in a Target Supply Chain Facility, with a focus on developing skills for an operations leadership role. You’ll work closely with managers and team members to understand supply chain operations, lead daily activities, and support department goals. The program includes mentorship, training, and opportunities to lead a work center while receiving guidance.
Responsibilities
- Lead and align teams on daily business priorities while working alongside team members on the facility floor
- Maintain high standards for quality and inventory accuracy through process standardization and employee accountability
- Track KPIs (safety, teamwork, quality, productivity) to identify gaps and drive performance improvements
- Implement process improvements using CI methodologies (Gemba, Fish Bone Analysis, 5 Whys) to create a lean, defect-free operation
- Facilitate communication between IT and operations teams to address system issues and conduct WMS testing
- Recruit, mentor, and develop team members to foster a continuous improvement mindset and leadership growth
- Address team member concerns and remove operational hurdles to ensure smooth operations and goal attainment
- Lead daily operational meetings, share company and site-specific updates, and present at planning meetings with leadership
- Plan daily goals, organize shift plans, and provide summaries of results, hurdles, and key learnings
- Conduct audits for safety, quality, and productivity adherence; provide feedback and coaching based on observations
- Perform safety walks to identify, resolve, and report findings
- Manage team member attendance, coaching, and performance feedback in partnership with leaders
- Propose new ideas and solutions for business or team opportunities
- Seek growth and development opportunities to learn Target’s leadership expectations
- Actively participate in training, developmental activities, and internship events
- Demonstrate ethical conduct, safety, and compliance while fostering an inclusive and secure culture
- Complete principle duties and responsibilities through internship rotations as trained
- Analyze business reporting and guest insights to troubleshoot and address opportunity areas
- Develop business acumen by understanding all functional areas of the supply chain facility
- Collaborate with building leaders daily to set goals and expectations
Qualifications
- Participation in school or extracurricular activities with experience in leadership roles
- Strong interest in retail, particularly within supply chain operations
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively

- Ability to access all levels and areas of the facility to respond to team member issues

- Ability to climb up and down ladders
- Ability to scan, handle, and move merchandise efficiently and safely, including frequently lifting or moving up to 15 pounds and occasionally up to 40 pounds
- Flexible work schedule (e.g., nights, weekends, and holidays) with regular attendance
