About the role
This position requires a strong leader to manage a fully functioning team. The role involves providing leadership to take charge of challenging projects, encouraging teamwork, and supplying the energy and enthusiasm required to achieve company goals and objectives. Responsibilities include managing accounts directly and through subordinates, developing the fleet and shop team, and promoting open communication regarding safety concerns.
Responsibilities
- Safety/Hazard Recognition & Elimination: Execute skill in observing habits and hazards of others and bringing it to their attention. Pre-plan and identify methods to eliminate hazards daily by work task. Uphold safety as the most important goal of our company. Promote and encourage open communication between field and office regarding all safety concerns, suggestions, improvements, and PPE needed.
- Profitability/Productivity: Oversee constant process improvement in the area of production and efficiency in our field labor. Efficiently manage fleet operations, such as rentals, new equipment purchases, managing repairs, and equipment utilization. Achieve minimum productivity requirements of 100% while striving for expected productivity requirements of 110%. Share manpower, resources, and tools with all projects, departments, and branches as needed. Assist with developing the branch's one and three-year plans. Anticipate problems and take necessary corrective actions. Ensure that our public image is maintained with all elements including our vehicle fleet and all correspondence.
- Growth: Prospect for leads continually through interaction on job sites through sub and customer interaction while executing current projects. Forecast what is to be done on a weekly basis, when, and by whom. Analyze and forecast factors that affect results to maximum efficiency. Develop appropriate programs, strategies, and supervision.
- Planning & Monitoring: Execute coordination of day-to-day department activities. Follow guidelines as established by Position Description Authorities. Provide leadership to take charge of challenging projects, encourage teamwork, and supply the energy and enthusiasm to achieve company goals and objectives.
- Problem Solving/Troubleshooting: Work closely with Director of Operations and peers to develop and implement strategy for Fleet Operations in support of the overarching strategy at MP Systems. Lead a team of both union and non-union supervisors, administrators, tooling, road/shop mechanics, logistic coordinators, fabricators, transporter drivers, yard management, and other duties as assigned. Oversee the acquisition and outfitting of new vehicles. Ensure all direct reports comply with all MP System’s processes such as: purchasing, data entry into systems, POs, Capex, SOPs, etc. Monitor fleet branding and processes. Administer fleet licensing and titling to ensure vehicles are registered annually. Annual review of vehicle replacements for Department budgeting. Read industry publications to stay knowledgeable of new technologies and best practices. Communicate with drivers and managers (vehicle/driver compliance issues). Act as primary contact for fleet services maintenance vendor. Act as the primary contact and coordinate annual compliance requirements for vehicle allowance program. Attend seminars/conferences to network with other Fleet Professionals. Assist the Safety Group with driver training. Maintain vehicle and equipment records. Maintain up to date drivers list. Maintain and monitor internal gas & maintenance card program. Maintain and monitor telematics reporting and connectivity. Monitor CMV and CDL vehicles for compliance requirements. Monitor annual CPA programs with vehicle manufacturers.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Desired qualifications include a decisive leader with a passion for hands-on work in outdoor environments and a strong drive for construction project management work. Must have a desire to work in a team-based environment and contribute immediately. High school education is required; two-year technical or four-year related degree or equivalent related experience preferred.
- Individual must be able to work independently, meet deadlines and budgets, work on multiple jobs simultaneously, and fulfill all job requirements within a timely fashion. Be willing and capable of completing personal development plans for self and subordinates. Desire to learn and grow personally and professionally required. Ability to effectively utilize basic Microsoft products such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Experience, skills, and abilities include 5-10 years prior experience, preferably in the construction, renewable energy and wind turbine, or the road construction/DOT field. Knowledge of estimating, scheduling, and budget processes. Ability to manage risk & profitability successfully. Positive safety attitude and personal integrity – both are non-negotiable. Be highly customer-service oriented; ability to create new and maintain current customers.
Physical Requirements
Office and field environment requiring sitting and standing. Travel to various work sites is essential, exposing employee to outdoor elements, noise, and the need to stand and walk.
