Operations Labor

Responsibilities

• Unloading pallets, boxes, and bundles
• Material handling and sorting: pushing, pulling, picking, lifting, carrying, and filling up hoppers, boxes, and conveyor belts
• Unpacking boxes using box cutters, separating plastics, zip ties, blister packs, and other packaging materials
• Disassembling small equipment, cutting wires, torqueing pipe fittings, removing bolts, automobile parts, and appliance parts
• Operating recycling equipment for processing metal products (e.g., metal shears, band saw, and wire strippers)
• Directing traffic of yard vehicles traveling through the yard
• Performing light facility maintenance: painting, scraping, moving furniture and equipment
• Assisting with machinery repair: selecting and using tools properly, pulling and installing parts
• Housekeeping: sweeping, cleaning, shoveling, and debris collection
• Performing moderate and periodic landscaping work
• Cleaning up work area at the end of each shift
• Keeping work areas neat and orderly
• Organizing materials to optimize space usage
• Disposing of various waste materials appropriately
• Inspecting to ensure cleanup is completed
• Maintaining ongoing effective housekeeping for safety and hygiene

Qualifications

• Employees in this position prior to April 2014 are presumed qualified and "grandfathered" into their roles
• Must pass a medical physical and drug test
• Must pass a background check
• Preferred: high school diploma or GED (foreign education acceptable)
• Bilingual (English & Spanish) language skills a plus
• Ability to communicate effectively with others
• Ability to understand direction (written or oral) and use basic math skills as needed
• Willingness to learn how to sort metal, identify colors, shapes, and weights
• Willingness to properly maintain equipment and utilize PPE

Pay

$17 – $19 per hour
