Operations and Maintenance Project Engineer

About the Role

The Maintenance Project Engineer will manage all activities related to the mechanical operations and development of the facility. They are responsible for the safe, proper, and efficient operation and maintenance of the facility in accordance with company policies and standards, under the direction of the Plant Manager. This role involves managing and coordinating maintenance activities, including installing, inspecting, testing, repairing, adjusting, and calibrating all plant equipment and instrumentation.

Responsibilities

• Supervise assigned projects and provide oversight.
• Prepare design criteria, diagrams, functional descriptions, calculations, equipment selection, drawings, sketches/layouts, and specifications.
• Prepare cost estimates, schedules, and purchase documents; review and handle drawings and submittals; conduct field work.
• Coordinate work with outside contractors and engineers, as well as in-house maintenance.
• Prepare and revise layouts, operational manuals, and procedures.
• Develop engineering and capital cost estimates.
• Prepare reports and document project activities and data.
• Confer with the Engineering Department to determine project details, such as plan preparation, acceptance testing, and evaluation of field conditions.
• Manage contractors working on projects.
• Fully participate in safety programs and ensure a safe and healthy work environment.
• Analyze and evaluate current processes and procedures to ensure consistency and adherence to formulas, procedures, and equipment.
• Support Engineering and Maintenance Departments in identifying and executing major and minor capital improvement projects.
• Assist in the preparation of work scopes, requests for proposals, and purchase orders for assigned projects.
• Monitor project schedules and obtain permits when required.
• Maintain project files for submittals, RFIs, change orders, and equipment delivery.
• Prepare specifications for bids, contracts, and rate estimations for new business.
• Complete corporate and plant training programs within prescribed time frames.
• Follow standard safety procedures, correct hazards, and implement lockout/tagout and other safety rules.
• Communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing.
• Troubleshoot equipment and diagnose problem areas.
• Plan and conduct major outages; implement and direct effective PM programs and lubrication plans.
• Maintain a positive work environment by acting and communicating professionally with customers, clients, vendors, co-workers, and management.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Three years of experience in an incineration plant environment, with a minimum of five years in a supervisory role.
• Maintain all licenses required by local, state, federal, environmental, and/or health/safety regulatory agencies.

  • Operate a 1.5-inch fire hose at 125 psi line pressure to extinguish fires.
  • Operate fire extinguishing equipment ranging from handheld extinguishers to 200 lb portable units.
  • Access confined spaces and pressure vessels through standard 12" by 16" manways.
• PPE Required: Work in areas under adverse conditions may require the use of personal protective equipment, including:
