About the role

This position has been exempted from the federal civilian hiring freeze. Current FBI employees are ineligible to apply if serving under the same conditions as that for which is advertised.

The job opening will be used to fill Operational Support Technician positions across FBI Field Offices. Please select your location preference(s) based off the Field Office's Headquarters City location.

Responsibilities

  • Provides administrative and clerical support to various staff members of the Field Office in order to accomplish organizational goals and missions.
  • Operates switchboard to provide assistance; takes messages or directs calls to the proper person.
  • Refers telephonic complaints and inquiries from outside sources and the general public to higher grade level employee for appropriate action.
  • Serves as WebTA Time Keeper to ensure all records are accurate and complete by the closing date of each pay period.
  • Manipulates automated information systems to perform duties associated with the retrieval of information from FBI, state, and local law enforcement databases and commercial computerized information systems.
  • Disseminates information to those involved in the investigation during course of normal work operations, and on occasion, during planned interagency activities and special operations in the office of assignment.
  • Ensures the physical security of office premises to include any storage areas or auxiliary parking facilities.
  • Confirms alarms are operational, and monitors alarm systems.
  • Personally conducts, or ensures inspections are made to verify doors and windows are properly locked; office safe and file cabinets containing official records and materials are secured; files, correspondence, keys, equipment and instruments are safeguarded; and all confidential trash is removed for destruction.
  • Responds appropriately to triggered alarms and any security violations.
  • May serve as COMSEC custodian, responsible for the receipt, custody, transfer, safeguarding, accounting, and destruction of COMSEC material.
  • Provides training and guidance to others on various facets of work performed.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Must be able to obtain a Top Secret-SCI clearance
  • Some travel may be required

Specialized Experience (SE) is defined as follows:

  • GS-6: Created and maintained records and files in accordance with policies and procedures. Utilized computers to type documents and/or forms. Communicated with internal staff and/or outside entities to obtain and/or provide information.
  • GS-7: Created, maintained, and disposed of records and files in accordance with policies and procedures. Retrieved information/data from a variety of databases. Communicated with internal staff and outside entities to obtain, verify, and provide information. Conducted physical security checks of the premises and/or took security measures to protect sensitive information.
  • GS-8: Created, maintained, and disposed of records and files in accordance with policies and procedures. Manipulated automated information systems to retrieve information from a variety of databases and recommended changes or improvements to enhance database(s). Initiated and maintained liaison with internal and external sources to obtain, verify, and provide information; and, provided assistance to those seeking immediate help. Conducted physical security checks of the premises and ensured sensitive information was protected and secured. Performed audits of records and resolved discrepancies or omissions; revised previously entered information to ensure consistency, accuracy, and conformance to policies.

Education

All degrees must be from an accredited college or university. Education may be substituted for specialized experience as follows:

  • GS-6: Applicant must have a bachelor’s degree.
  • GS-7: Applicant must have a bachelor’s degree with superior academic achievement or one (1) full year of graduate level education.
  • GS-8: Education may not be substituted for specialized experience at this grade level.

Pay

GS-6: $38,791.00 - $50,428.00

GS-7: $43,106.00 - $56,039.00

GS-8: $47,738.00 - $62,057.00

NOTE: The salaries listed above are the base rate of pay for federal employees on the General Schedule (GS) pay scale. A complete list of pay tables factoring in locality pay (based on geographical area) can be found on OPM.gov.

Schedule

Working Hours Will vary - selectees may be required to work shift work including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed by the Field Office.
