About the role
The Operational Improvement Technical Expert is the technical analyst responsible for identifying and eliminating avoidable operational costs in service outages. This role applies deep field execution knowledge to reduce labor, tooling, material, logistics, and rework costs while maintaining safety, quality, and schedule performance.
The position partners with Field Service, Project Management, Tooling, Supply Chain, and Analytics to convert real-world execution challenges into standardized, repeatable cost-reduction solutions across the outage lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Identify structural drivers of outage cost and cost variability across planning, execution, and closeout.
- Perform root-cause analysis of cost overruns and recurring execution inefficiencies.
- Define and support standardized outage practices (e.g., tooling, staffing models, sequencing, work scopes).
- Translate field experience and data insights into scalable operational improvements.
- Engage directly with field teams to capture practical improvement opportunities.
- Support pilots and implementation of cost-reduction initiatives and standards.
Requirements
- 8+ years’ direct technical experience in field service execution (power generation or rotating equipment).
- Demonstrated experience reducing operational costs in complex field environments.
- Deep understanding of outage planning and execution workflows.
- Ability to translate technical details into clear cost and business impact.
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills.
Qualifications
- Preferred experience in operational or continuous improvement, project controls, and familiarity with outage estimating, tooling strategies, logistics planning, plus Lean, Six Sigma, or similar improvement training.
