About the Role
Brasfield & Gorrie, a recognized leader in the construction industry, seeks an Operational Excellence Manager to champion continuous improvement and operational excellence across any B&G office location. This role focuses on two key areas: collaborating directly with project teams to identify and lead improvement opportunities, and partnering with knowledge management and design management teams to document and disseminate company best practices and standards. The position is grounded in Lean methodologies, emphasizing respect for people, process standardization, and innovation.
Responsibilities
- Build and foster relationships with department, operational, field, and preconstruction leadership to encourage continuous improvement and plan for upcoming pursuits and projects.
- Lead project teams in identifying best practices, facilitating retrospectives, problem-solving challenges, and implementing continuous improvement strategies onsite.
- Collaborate with design management teams to share lessons learned and influence better design decisions and coordination for future projects.
- Facilitate team-building sessions to enhance cohesion, growth opportunities, and high-performing team environments.
- Work with operations and knowledge management teams to develop and deploy interactive best-practice playbooks for efficient onboarding in new market sectors, leveraging collective company knowledge.
- Identify opportunities to collect metrics and case studies to showcase operational improvement success stories.
- Cultivate a culture that challenges the status quo and drives organizational improvement.
- Stay current with industry innovations related to Lean and operational excellence tools, methodologies, and technology.
- Facilitate large groups (30+) and complex project teams weekly, demonstrating confidence in team-building, problem-solving, visual planning, and continuous improvement events.
- Demonstrate self-starter initiative, creating strategies and actions with minimal information and integrating quickly into project teams.
- Train and support office and project teams in Lean construction tools, including the Last Planner System, Value Stream Mapping, Prefabrication, A3s, 5S, and Visual Management.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience in construction operations.
- 5+ years of experience in group facilitation and implementing process improvement methodologies.
- Experience and passion for coaching and developing people, with an understanding of individual motivations.
- Outgoing and positive demeanor to quickly connect with new projects and teams.
- Passion for leading change and improving company processes.
- Resilient and calm attitude in the face of challenges and resistance.
- 3+ years of experience coaching the Last Planner System (preferred).
- Experience teaching CliftonStrengths or CoreClarity (preferred).
- Strong organizational and project management skills, particularly with MS Office.
- Ability to speak confidently in groups of 30+.
- Willingness and ability to master new skills quickly.
Schedule
Travel is typically 30-40% (average 2 nights per week).
