Job Summary

You will be a vital member of the healthcare team, providing technical and supportive services in the Operating Room under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse/Supervisor/Clinical Coordinator. Every day you will access or distribute drugs, needles, or syringes to/within patient care areas or treatment carts as per hospital policy. Your role ensures seamless and safe OR function, supporting surgical procedures and maintaining sterility.

Responsibilities

  • Access or distribute drugs, needles, or syringes to/within patient care areas or treatment carts as per hospital policy.
  • Ensure the OR function runs smoothly by supporting surgical procedures and maintaining sterility.
  • Provide excellent customer service by greeting patients, visitors, staff, and physicians promptly and courteously, referring to individuals by name when appropriate, and screening individuals by requesting to see identification or visitor pass.
  • Operate, clean, and maintain equipment.
  • Collect, process, and sterilize articles from all areas including the Operating Room on a priority basis.
  • Serve as a liaison between the SPD and physicians' offices and instrument vendors by obtaining special requests prior to elective surgery and ensuring that required instruments are prepared and available as needed.
  • Run and monitor biological tests for the stream and Sterrad (low temperature) sterilizers using computer-based lists.
  • Inspect, maintain, assemble, and pick Operating Room instruments and sets, coordinating activities with the Operation Room Surgical Schedule and OR Staff.

Requirements

  • Required High School Graduate General Studies and one year of full-time experience as a central service technician, upon hire or
  • High School GED General Studies and one year of full-time experience as a central service technician, upon hire and six months experience in processing and assembly of surgical instruments.
  • Experience requirement may be waived for individuals who have successfully completed a Central Services Technician (CST) externship at Sequoia Hospital.
  • Certified and Registered Central Service Technician, upon hire or
  • Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Supervisor, upon hire or
  • Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician, upon hire or
  • Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician, upon hire.
