Job Overview
The Operating Room Nurse Senior provides highly skilled patient care in a surgical setting in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice with the policies, values, and mission of the organization. The Operating Room at Anschutz campus is a 14 OR unit that treats children and adolescents for any level of injury or illness. The unit supports 24 different surgical specialties and performs more than 23,000 cases a year. The staff in the OR are proud to provide safe quality of care to our patients.

Consults and Coordinates
- Navigates and documents in the EMR to support patient care
- Audits unit documentation to improve accuracy and minimize documentation errors
Delegates According to Nurse Practice Act
- Manages the allocation of resources to meet patient needs
Communicates with the Associate Clinical Manager(s)
- Mediates problems involving patient/family, hospital personnel and the public
Provides Direct Guidance and Oversight
- Ensures behaviors adhere to documentation standards, standards of excellence, and all other policies and procedures
Creates Orientation Goals
- Helps to create orientees’ weekly orientation goals
- Participates in progress tracking meetings together with leader/manager and educator
- Notifies CE of successes of the orientee
Completes Orientees Evaluation Form
- Completes orientees evaluation form on completion of orientation
- Includes any other required regulatory documentation of orientee competency
Serves as Communication Liaison
- Serves as the communication liaison to patients, families and members of the operating team
Skilled Ability to Function as Charge Nurse
- Works with the ACM/Manager to mediate problems involving providers, patient/family, and hospital personnel
- Provides clinical follow-up through just-in-time coaching when desired outcomes are not achieved
- Takes ownership in the financial success of the unit with appropriate resource utilization and management of staffing
Provides Leadership for Unit and Shared Governance Initiatives
- Leads unit and shared governance initiatives to improve patient care, throughput as determined by leadership
Leads Educational Instruction, Simulation Experiences, and Clinical Competency Verification
- Leads educational instruction

Participates in Local, Regional, or National Operating Room Organizations
- Actively participates in local, regional, or national operating room organizations
Prepares Operating Room for Patient and Procedure
- Delivers patient and family centered care incorporating the nursing process
- Anticipates changes in patient outcomes/unit needs in the provision of care
Communicates Observations or Concerns Related to Unsafe Situations
- Communicates observations or concerns related to unsafe situations that pose a risk to patients, families or the health care team
Recognizes and Applies Information and Technology of Patient and Unit Outcomes
- Recognizes and applies information and technology of patient and unit outcomes to facilitate communication, clinical decision making, error prevention, and care coordination
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Experience: Four (4) years perioperative nursing experience
- Certification(s): BLS/CPR, PALS, and ACLS from the American Heart Association with at least 6 months left before expiration is required upon hire. CNOR within 6 months of hire.
- Licensure(s): Current State licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
Salary Information
Hourly Rate of Pay: $55.43
