About the role

Operates and maintains physical plant equipment on specified shift assignments. Performs special assignments on complex electrical and mechanical equipment. Assists in training operating engineers on mechanical, electrical, and building management systems. Under limited supervision, evaluates and implements corrective measures to return malfunctioning equipment and systems to specified standards.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Safely operate all equipment in the steam plant.
  • Submit required logs and reports.
  • Operate all HVAC and ventilating equipment.
  • Complete all required documentation logs and forms.
  • Document Confidential Occurrence events.
  • Assist in training newer engineers on procedures and emergency response.
  • Implement policies and procedures during disasters or emergency situations.

Decision-making impacts the employee and the team, with awareness of budget implications.

Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license for at least four (4) years with a satisfactory driving record (no more than one accident or moving violation in the past 12 months, no DUII conviction in the past five years).
  • Must complete a defensive driving course within the first 90 days of employment.
  • Drives a company-owned vehicle as part of the job (Category A driver).

Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or GED preferred.

Experience:

  • If hired prior to March 1, 2020: 10+ years of experience as an operating engineer in a hospital environment or an Oregon Limited Maintenance Electrical (LME) license with 5+ years of experience in a hospital or similar facility.
  • If hired after March 1, 2020: 5+ years of experience as an operating engineer in a hospital or similar facility and an Oregon Limited Maintenance Electrical (LME) license.

If hired without an LME, the employee must enroll in an LME program and work toward completion within three years.

Skills

  • Mechanical and electrical troubleshooting, and plant systems analysis.
  • Continuing education and on-the-job training in operating engineer disciplines.
  • Ability to work any shift, including evenings, nights, and weekends.
  • Effective communication skills, including body language, active listening, and paraphrasing.
  • Knowledge of HVAC and ventilating equipment operation.
  • Team collaboration and positive communication with diverse healthcare teams, patients, and others.
  • Recognizes limitations and seeks guidance appropriately.

Pay

$35.69/hr. to $51.06/hr.
