Operating Engineer

Rate of pay: $15.00/hr.

About the role

This is an entry-level position. The primary duties of an operator are to perform tasks associated with operating and maintaining the two main water treatment plants. A training period is required to learn the operation of the plants.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine testing and document results
• Answer telephones and interact with the public
• Dispatch on-call personnel and make operational decisions
• Maintain an official log
• Conduct grounds maintenance of water plants, including elevated tanks, wells, and other remote sites
• Perform routine maintenance tasks and maintain equipment such as mowers and trimmers
• Work all shifts as required, including weekends, holidays, and in all weather conditions

Requirements

• Obtain Waterworks Operator Certification within five (5) years of hire (requires a minimum of three years of experience and passing a written exam)

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or G.E.D.
• Valid Mississippi driver license (must be maintained at all times)
