Job Overview

Fairview is seeking an Operating Engineer to join their team at St. John's Hospital in Maplewood, MN.

Maintains knowledge of, and complies with, all relevant laws, regulations, policies, procedures and standards.

Actively participates in creating and implementing improvements.

Operates high/low pressure boiler heating system and air conditioning equipment.

Repairs steam plank equipment, plumbing, structure, heating, air conditioning and electrical equipment.

Completes monitoring and repairs in accordance with operating procedures, manufacturer guidelines, OSHA, State and Federal regulations.

Maintains records on equipment repairs, safety inspections, and preventive maintenance.

Communicates supply shortages to others as needed.

Answers all departmental telephone calls and or work requests received and enters on work order system to ensure prompt response to inquiries or problems.

Consults with and advises supervisor regarding problems with operation of the building and reports all repairs and maintenance that require assistance from maintenance engineer or outside services.

Demonstrates safe practice in the use of equipment and makes recommendations and improvement of safety. Wears safety equipment as appropriate.

Required Experience

  • 3 years’ experience required in operating, heating and cooling systems and maintaining building structures and grounds.
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques used in high/low pressure steam heating or power plant operation.
  • Licenses/Certifications/Registrations: License 1B Class Boiler (C-1B) through MN Department of Labor and Industry.
