The University of Tennessee Health Science Center seeks an Open Rank Professor and Program Director for the Graduate Endodontics Program in the Department of Endodontics.

About the role

Under the direction of the Chair of the Endodontics Department, this full-time non-tenured faculty position includes responsibilities across education, patient care, service, and scholarship. Key roles include visionary leadership, administrative oversight, and academic guidance for the Graduate Endodontics Program.

Responsibilities

  • Direct all aspects of the Graduate Endodontics Program, including curriculum design, accreditation compliance, and strategic planning.
  • Serve as the primary liaison to the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) regarding program compliance and reporting.
  • Provide high-quality didactic and clinical instruction to residents, emphasizing both foundational knowledge and advanced surgical and non-surgical Endodontic procedures.
  • Carefully coordinate and participate in seminars, lectures, case reviews, and interdepartmental teaching collaborations.
  • Mentor residents and junior faculty in clinical and translational research.
  • Support scholarly productivity through advising on protocol development, IRB submissions, data analysis, presentations, and publication in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Supervise the delivery of endodontic care in the graduate clinics, ensuring adherence to best practices and safety protocols.
  • Participate in patient care activities in compliance with licensure and practice guidelines.
  • Actively contribute to departmental and college committees, initiatives, and events.
  • Represent the program at professional meetings and contribute to recruitment, alumni engagement, and community outreach.
  • Mentor graduate students in Endodontics research and support scholarly productivity.
  • Deliver lectures, seminars, and clinical supervision in advanced Endodontic procedures.
  • Provide limited direct patient care in the context of graduate clinical supervision and licensure.
  • Serve on departmental and college committees and contribute to curriculum and program development.

Qualifications

  • EDUCATION: DDS or DMD from an accredited institution. Completion of a CODA-accredited post-graduate program in Endodontics.
  • LICENSES: Diplomate status with the American Board of Endodontics (ABE). Eligible for Tennessee dental licensure. (Eligibility for moderate conscious sedation certification preferred.)
  • Departmental Preferences: Experience with advanced surgical and non-surgical Endodontic therapy. Administrative and leadership experience in dental education. Evidence of scholarly activity and teaching excellence. Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills. Proven ability to mentor graduate-level students and residents. Commitment to excellence in education and patient care.
