About the Role

The Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Virginia School of Medicine seeks multiple American Board of Anesthesiology certified or certification-eligible candidates committed to a career in academic medicine. Both tenure-ineligible and tenure-eligible faculty positions are available. Details pertinent to both tracks can be found in the UVA School of Medicine Promotion and Tenure guidelines.

The department's faculty deliver anesthesia to close to 60,000 patients each year in approximately 75 anesthetic locations, including main operating rooms and ambulatory surgical centers. The department is recognized as a Center for Excellence by the American Pain Society, and the Pain Medicine team handles approximately 10,000 patient visits annually. Faculty also provide intensive care in three critical care units: neuro, cardio-thoracic surgery, and surgery units.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical care
  • Supervise residents and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs)
  • Teach fellows, residents, and medical students
  • Engage in research (if interested)

Requirements

  • MD or equivalent degree
  • Completion of an anesthesiology residency program
  • American Board of Anesthesiology certified or certification-eligible
