Open Position – Principal Investigator, Jackson, Michigan (CCRG)
About the role
The Project Principal Investigator/Project Archaeologist position at Commonwealth Cultural Resources Group, Inc. (CCRG) is based in Jackson, Michigan. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of a Master's degree in anthropology/archaeology or historic preservation, with a Ph.D. being preferred. Experience in conducting Phase I surveys, Phase II evaluations, and Phase III data recoveries, as well as a strong understanding of Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act and the National Register of Historic Places evaluation of historic properties, is required.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and manage CRM projects
- Conduct, oversee, and direct archaeological research and field investigations
- Permit and excavate human burials in compliance with state and federal statutes
- Prepare and review archaeological reports
- Design and administer archaeological databases
- Hire and supervise archaeological field and lab personnel
- Participate in professional organizations and meetings
- Prepare publications
- Serve as a liaison to the public, government officials, and clients
- Write proposals and develop new business
Requirements
- Expert knowledge of the Section 106 and NEPA process
- Ability to prepare well-organized, thorough CRM documents
- Experience with large linear projects, including pipelines
- Knowledge of the Archaeological Resource Protection Act and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission CRM procedures
- Proficiency with computers, databases, GPS, and GIS
- Demonstrated ability to conduct artifact analyses and write key sections of reports (methods, results, artifact analyses)
