About the Opportunity:The Release of Information Specialist I is responsible for initiating and managing the medical record release process using specialized software. This role ensures documentation is processed accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with relevant privacy laws. The position contributes to maintaining the integrity and confidentiality of health information and supports operational effectiveness within the release of information department.

Responsibilities

• Process medical release of information requests promptly and accurately
• Utilize Verisma software applications to manage release requests
• Assist in resolving HIPAA-related release issues
• Organize records and documents necessary to complete release processes
• Read and interpret medical records, forms, and authorizations
• Provide professional customer service via in-person, phone, or email interactions
• Maintain compliance and confidentiality using provided reference materials
• Participate in required training sessions
• Support departmental and organizational operations through additional assigned duties

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent; some college education preferred
• Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification preferred
• Minimum of two years experience in medical records
• Minimum of two years experience in clerical or office work
• Proficiency with office equipment and Microsoft Office Suite
• Healthcare setting experience preferred
• Knowledge of HIPAA and state regulations relating to protected health information release preferred
• Ability to work independently and with attention to detail
