Online Tutor: Understanding Games
About the role
As an Online Tutor on the BA(Hons) Game Development (Online) programme, you will support the Understanding Games module. The content centres primarily on the theories and discourse around the mechanics, aesthetics, and narrative of games. Experience in Game Studies or similar subjects, or a strong understanding of literature and theory around games and culture, would be beneficial.
Online Tutors are vital to the success and vibrancy of our online courses. You will be a constant presence in the module, serving as the first point of contact for students’ academic enquiries and supporting their learning activities.
Responsibilities
- Deliver live sessions such as webinars, workshops, or tutorials each week to a cohort of students.
- Facilitate topic discussions and provide academic guidance via emails, one-to-one sessions, and an online learning space.
- Work closely with the course leader and module leaders to ensure the best possible student experience.
- Support up to 30 students with learning, assessment, and feedback within an allocated 112-hour period (Study Block 1: September 2026 to January 2027).
Requirements
- Educated to degree level or equivalent industry experience.
- Experience working with groups of students from diverse backgrounds at higher education level.
- Evidence of research and/or teaching in Game Studies or related fields.
- Previous experience teaching online (desirable).
- Strong understanding of the principles and practicalities of online learning.
- Excellent digital literacy, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Strong connections with industry and professional practice.
- Well-organised with a commitment to delivering an excellent online learning experience.
Schedule
Hours are flexible and spread throughout the week as agreed with your line manager. The role is designed to complement freelance careers or other teaching commitments. You must be available to start on 14 September 2026 and be based within the UK.
