Major/Essential Functions
- Conducts clinical observations as dictated by accreditation and university requirements and through video-based supervision
- Reviews additional video observations as necessary and as requested
- Completes, collects, and submits all required documents for student teaching according to program deadlines through online platforms
- Conducts weekly communication with candidates online via Zoom, by phone, and/or via email
- Contributes to virtual orientation with Mentor Teachers and site administrators about teacher education program requirements and maintains ongoing communication throughout the candidate's placement
- Becomes familiar with all technology platforms used by the program, including the clinical practice management system, learning management system, video observation tools, and university communication systems
- Attends all virtual meetings required by the teacher education program
- Meets with Mentor Teacher(s) virtually on a consistent basis to ensure progress of candidate(s)
- Communicates with program leadership as needed to address candidate questions and concerns
- Attends yearly Data Retreat in person
- Attends quarterly Faculty meetings (online) with College of Education leadership
Position Requirements
- Education and Experience:
- Master's degree or equivalent
- Valid California clear teaching credential in Single Subject Visual and Performing Arts
- Three or more years of outstanding teaching/administration in public schools
- Skills And Abilities:
- Strong ability to conduct video-based supervision, provide effective online feedback, and maintain consistent virtual communication
- Proficiency with online communication and collaboration tools (Zoom, learning management systems, video observation platforms)
- Current knowledge of California Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) Content Standards, the VAPA Framework, and state accountability systems
- Demonstrated knowledge of current California Teaching Performance Expectations (TPEs) and edTPA requirements for teacher education candidates
- Demonstrated commitment to furthering equity, diversity, access to arts education, and the improvement of public education
- Strong commitment to student learning, quality teaching, and academic excellence in the performing arts
- Demonstrated ability to motivate and support candidates of diverse learning styles, cultural backgrounds, and artistic abilities in an online environment
- Appreciation and respect for candidate development, artistic growth, and professional responsibility in the learning process
- Current knowledge of effective online supervision approaches, such as cognitive coaching, adult learning theory, and current theatre pedagogy and instructional practices specific to performing arts education
- Qualifications of faculty and other instructional personnel must include, but are not limited to:
- a) current knowledge of the content
- b) knowledge of the current context of public schooling including the California adopted P-12 content standards, frameworks, and accountability systems
- c) knowledge of diversity in society, including diverse abilities, culture, language, ethnicity, and gender orientation
- d) demonstration of effective professional practices in teaching and learning, scholarship, and service
Work Environment
- This is a remote position that requires working from home using a university-provided laptop.
- The role involves regular use of email, video conferencing, and other online tools to communicate and complete tasks.
- A quiet workspace and a reliable internet connection are essential.
- Employees are responsible for abiding by all FERPA privacy laws within their remote work environment.
- While performing the job duties, the employee is regularly required to sit; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear.
- The employee may sometimes be required to lift and/or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds and walk a distance of up to 400 meters.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus.
Adjunct Compensation
- Course contracts are paid semi-monthly and range from $150 - $3,500 depending on instruction level and student count.
