About the role
Labela is seeking certified U.S. Oncology Data Specialists for high-level cancer data abstraction and documentation consulting. You will serve as a subject matter expert to validate, refine, and audit the abstracting logic and staging reasoning of frontier AI models. This is a flexible, remote role designed for practicing registrars and cancer data professionals to influence the accuracy and standards compliance of medical AI at scale.
Key Responsibilities
- Abstraction Logic Auditing: Review and refine AI-generated cancer abstracts to ensure alignment with ICD-O-3.2 topography, histology, and behavior coding, as well as SEER, STORE, and NAACCR data standards.
- High-Complexity Validation: Provide expert-level ground truth for full case abstractions, including AJCC TNM staging, SEER Summary Stage and EOD, Site-Specific Data Items (SSDIs), grade coding, and first-course-of-treatment capture.
- Standards Oversight: Identify multiple primary and histology rule errors, staging discrepancies, reportability misclassifications, and edit failures in AI outputs that could compromise data quality or accreditation compliance.
- Strategic Consulting: Advise on the development of AI-driven abstraction, casefinding, and cancer registry support tools across hospital and central registry settings.
Qualifications
- Active ODS-C certification (formerly CTR) from NCRA.
- Minimum of 2 years of production abstracting, quality control, or registry operations experience in a hospital, central, or specialty registry setting.
- Must be based in the United States.
- Ability to provide concise, technical rationale for data item assignments and to cite the specific manual, rule, or standard setter guidance supporting each decision.
