About the role

Assists the Pharmacist in providing medication and pharmaceutical services to patients, nurses, physicians, and other hospital personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Doses medications under the supervision of a pharmacist.
  • Maintains inventory of medications and supplies, and reorders them accordingly.
  • Restocks and maintains automated dispensing machines and anesthesia machines.
  • Processes records of medications dispensed to patients or customers, computes charges, and enters them into the computer system.
  • Prepares, evaluates, and interprets medication usage, including narcotic usage, into applicable reports.
  • Receives and stores incoming deliveries of medication and supplies in appropriate storage conditions.
  • Participates in departmental and organizational performance improvement and CQI activities.
  • Assists the Pharmacists in providing pharmaceutical care for patients ranging in age from newborn to the elderly.
  • Identifies and understands dosage variations between newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients and consults with the Pharmacist if any doubts or questions arise.
  • Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical and healthcare errors.
  • Maintains the Pharmacy Department in a clean and orderly manner.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Education in all age groups ranging from newborn to geriatric population obtained either in school education, experience, or subsequent training.
  • Graduate of a certified training program/healthcare careers college and/or training equivalent.
  • Must be nationally certified as a Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) within one year of hire date.
  • One year of related pharmacy experience and/or education equivalent.
  • Basic computer knowledge, preferably with Excel and Word experience.
  • Ability to read and communicate effectively in English. Additional languages preferred.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide.
  • Must be a motivated critical thinker and problem solver.
