Oncology Nurse In Charge BWH

About the role

The Nurse in Charge (NIC) is a designated clinical leader for a given patient care area who works collaboratively with the Nursing Director (ND) and Assistant Nurse Director (AND) in planning and implementing patient care at the service/department level. The NIC is accountable for cost-effective decision making regarding daily assignment of staff, use of supplies, and day-to-day operational decision making. The NIC participates in clinical patient care standard development, evaluation of outcomes, and development of improvement initiatives. The NIC also contributes to the assessment of staff performance through individual staff performance reviews and is accountable for identifying competency issues and participating in the development and implementation of performance improvement plans. The NIC reports to the Nursing Director.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates clinical expertise in the assigned area.
• Utilizes current concepts of nursing practice in the management of patient care.
• Assists with development and implementation of policies and procedures.
• Organizes, coordinates, and participates in the evaluation of care delivery.
• Promotes effective working relationships with all members of the healthcare team through strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
• Manages stress related to organizational changes, personnel, and patient care issues.
• Applies hospital standards in service, teamwork, communication, respect for others, and time/priority management.
• Contributes to staff performance reviews and identifies competency issues.
• Participates in the development and implementation of performance improvement plans.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (required).
• Master’s Degree in Nursing (preferred).
• MA Registered Nursing License (required).
• 3 years of experience in nursing (required).
• Oncology experience (preferred).
• Membership in professional organizations is recommended.
• Certification in specialty areas is encouraged.

Pay

$43.87 - $116.47/hour (Grade MNA241).

Schedule

• 36 hours per week.
• Rotating shifts.

75 Francis Street, Boston, MA (onsite).
