Oncology Clinical Trials Nurse Navigator - Full-Time Days at Pennsylvania Hospital

About the role

The Oncology Clinical Trials Nurse Navigator supports access to clinical trials and the growth of the oncology research program at Pennsylvania Hospital. This role involves identifying clinical trials that benefit patients, reviewing patient records, working with the research team and providers to assess and determine trial eligibility, and serving as an educator for patients and families regarding the research process.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and review patient records to identify those eligible for open clinical trials
  • Work with other nurse navigators, providers, and the research team to facilitate assessment and determine appropriateness of patients for open and enrolling clinical trials
  • Serve as an educator for patients and families regarding the research process and specific trials
  • Function as a resource to a multidisciplinary team of specialists as an advocate, interpreter, educator, and counselor for the oncology patient, their family, and referring public
  • Ensure patients with an oncology diagnosis receive quality and comprehensive coordinated services
  • Facilitate dynamic scheduling for patients, triage services, and coordinate care
  • Facilitate clinical research enrollment
  • Integrate clinical activities across various specialties in cancer care
  • Decrease barriers to access clinical trials for patients, including public education about clinical research and working with community and advocacy groups to identify and address barriers

Requirements

A registered nurse with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited institution is required. Oncology certification and/or certified clinical research professional credentials are preferred. 3+ years of clinical oncology-specific education at an academic medical center is preferred, along with a Master of Science in Nursing.

Qualifications

Must have a current RN license in the state of Pennsylvania.

Skills

Strong communication skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously are essential.
